About The Role

We are looking for a Head of Engineering to help us dominate the market in our niche. Reporting to the CEO, you will preside over the day to day leadership of the engineering team, owning weekly and monthly goals that encompass everything from uptime, reliability, and availability, to the cultivation of technical initiatives and successful delivery of features.

As a leader, you will be responsible for providing overarching leadership to the tech team, working in sync with executive management, head of product, head of operations to scope new enterprise launch, product launch, new features and iterations on existing features, as well as develop timelines for execution and accountability against those timelines

What you will be doing…

  • Partner closely with CEO and Executive Leadership Team to develop a compelling technology vision that aligns technology and operational strategy with Plaqad’s overall business goals.
  • Lead by example with un-reproachable ethical standards, high integrity, and great enthusiasm. Using technology as a scalable and competitive advantage, collaborate cross-functionally to lead the organisation through transformational change, future acquisitions, and new market entry.
  • Participate in strategic planning and strive to improve bottom-line financial performance of the business.
  • Lead a High-Performing Team – Promote Plaqad’s cultural values by fostering an atmosphere of open communication and personal accountability.
  • Identify, motivate, and develop a high-performing team of direct reports who embrace servant leadership and manage cross-functionally to achieve Technology goals.
  • Grow existing bench strength and foster developmental opportunities for team members.
  • Foster an environment where effective communication occurs between technical resources, technology consumers, and, larger circle of Plaqads stakeholders.
  • Ensure that the technology team objectives and mindset are aligned with business goals and focus on technology’s role as an enabler.
  • Develop and deliver the annual operating and capital budgets to ensure the right resources are available to move the company’s technological capabilities forward. Ensures there is a plan for people, supporting technologies and operations.
  • Develop a long-term technology road map along with interim plans to provide immediate short-term improvements in existing systems for BHM Group and its portfolio companies. Continually monitor the plan and revise as needed to anticipate and adequately meet future needs.
  • Direct the development of the digital strategic vision, in cooperation with the company’s Annual Operating Plan and Strategic Initiatives. This should include core functionality, key partners, technology enablers and the consumer roadmap in partnership with Marketing.
  • Responsible for communicating the strategy enterprise-wide and for executing the roadmap.
  • Establish credibility as an effective developer of technology solutions throughout the organisation as well as with the Board.
  • Deliver Technology-Oriented Business Solutions – Identify opportunities to solve business challenges through technology.
  • Create a unified vision through internal collaboration to define technology strategies and to implement the roadmaps necessary to achieve business goals.
  • Ensure strategy and roadmaps are positioned to enable growth across business units. Anticipate and navigate shifts in user technology and properly prepare the organisation for related changes.
  • Control costs and improve bottom-line financial performance of our business.
  • Deliver exceptional technology service to all internal constituents as well as unparalleled digital experiences for Plaqad’s external clients and members.
  • Instil a passion for Attracting, Recruiting, Developing and Retaining the talent that will improve the overall agility, speed and data-driven capability of the company
  • Develop, manage and curate a portfolio of key third-party relationships (agencies, service providers, consultants, etc.)
  • Build and manage both the product development, web ops, development, analytics, and planning teams, as well as the Technology team that supports enterprise-wide initiatives.
  • Identify technology trends and evolving social behaviors that may support or impede the business.
  • Stay current with technology standards, industry trends, emerging technologies, and product development and product management best practices.
  • Evolve the company’s AGILE development methodology.
  • Ensure governance direction and control objectives are achieved, risks are mitigated and the company’s resources are used appropriately.
  • Promote the use of new technologies and techniques internally (in the direct team and across the group) and externally (with suppliers and partners)

What You Should Have

  • Expertise in full stack architecture technologies, JavaScript, Ruby, Rails, and HTML
  • Knowledge of a variety of programming languages such as Java, Objective C, C, and C++.
  • Hands-on leadership in an agile development environment working on large scale SaaS software, including cloud-based media processing, hosting, and serving via both applications and APIs
  • Strong communication skills – ability to be an active participant in nuanced technical discussions as well as an ability to represent the platform/solution/challenge to a non-technical audience.
  • Comfortable working and communicating with all levels of the organization, including senior management teams and C level executives.
  • Ability to voice a strong opinion and make business-oriented decisions.

  • Ability to build and lead motivated, productive, geographically diverse teams.
